Breast augmentation, or enlargement, surgery is performed to give women a fuller, more youthful appearance in their bust line. It can be performed in a variety of different ways using several different types of implants.
Breast augmentation can be performed through a wide variety of entry sites. Small incisions can be made in the armpit, under the breast, around the areola (the colored area surrounding the nipple) or through the bellybutton. The implants, which are all filled with salt-water (saline solution), can then be placed directly under the breast or under the chest muscles. Finally, the implants themselves can be smooth, “textured”, or “anatomic”.
Which combination of entry points, placement areas and implant types is right for you depends on your individual body type. By themselves, no one method is significantly better than another. However, one combination will probably be more applicable for you. During your consultation, the benefits of each will be presented so you can make an informed decision.
You will wear a surgical bra for about one week and then you may resume wearing your own. (In a bigger size of course!) The implants can feel hard for a few days or a few weeks as the skin stretches to accommodate the new larger size of your breasts. Soon they will soften and have a natural feel. It is important not to perform any strenuous activity for the first few weeks as your breasts may swell from the increased motion.
Absolutely not. All implants, except under special circumstances, are all filled with salt water (saline). If they were to leak, the company guarantees to replace them free of charge. The body harmlessly absorbs the fluid.
The implants will need to be replaced in 5-10 years.
Breast feeding is unaffected by implant placement
That is not my decision, it is yours. When you arrive for your consultation, have an idea how much of an augmentation you would like. Bring in some magazine photos if you wish. I will be happy to guide you with your choice, but ultimately you must be pleased with your selection. This requires a few moments of complete self-honesty. Most frequently, women err on choosing too small an augmentation size.
